Newburn Bakehouse by Warburtons offers an award winning gluten and wheat free range of bakery products. Our dedicated bakery in Newburn, Newcastle, hosts a team of expert gluten and wheat free bakers, combining generations of Warburtons passion and know-how to produce delicious breads and treats.

Currently stocked in Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda and convenience stores, the Newburn Bakehouse range is now planning a series of new product launches for 2014/15.  At present the range includes beautifully soft gluten free fresh bread, French-style baguettes, soft rolls, mouth-watering wheat and gluten free muffins, and the popular wheat free white and seeded wraps, and gluten free sandwich thins both the first of their kind in the UK.

We are now looking to feature this range within the food service. Our wraps have been very popular among consumers and gluten free food suppliers. La Tasca has our gluten and wheat White Wraps featured on their menu across their entire UK portfolio. It is a flatbread for their starter menu. Costa Coffee also sell our White wraps as a gluten and dairy free Chicken and Basil Salad Wrap pack. You can pick this delicious wrap up at any Costa Coffee main outlets. Starbucks also has our gluten and dairy free wrap, as a gluten free Veggie Good Houmous wrap. This is also one of your 5 a day and can be purchased at any outlet. All three wraps are proving very popular within each outlet by gluten free consumers. 

Why are we launching into food service?

For those with Coeliac disease, eating away from home is a big challenge. Many hotels, cafes and restaurants have a lack of knowledge and understanding about catering to the wheat free market.

However, the increase in demand for gluten free restaurant foods has not gone unnoticed by the foodservice industry with Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Bella Italia, Wetherspoon's, and La Tasca all now offering gluten free options. Many are working with leading charity Coeliac UK to gain accreditation and improve their in-house production and training methods to avoid contamination.

Coeliac UK, the UK's charity for those with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis has highlighted the continued lack of away from home options, and has made gluten free foodservice a key area of focus for its national awareness week for the last two years.

For us, entering the gluten free foodservice channel is the next logical step. As more people are diagnosed with Coeliac disease and related intolerances, the demand for a quality wholesale gluten free food supplier is increasing across all channels.
